5 splats

Two little islands float over the sea, one for Doodle and one for his rival. Take turns: aim, pick how hard, mind the wind and throw. A water balloon goes SPLAT, a cream pie goes right in the face (“Yum!”), jelly bounces and berries burst into three. Every splat takes a bite out of the islands, so the ground changes as you play. Make your rival all messy before they splat you. Four rivals are waiting, and Bolt the champion reads the wind: a real challenge for grown-ups too.

How to play

  1. Aim it.

Pull back on the picture, or use the arrows. The arrow shows which way Doodle throws, the bar how hard.

  2. Mind the wind!

The wind blows a throw sideways. The arrow at the top shows which way, and how hard from 0 to 10.

  3. Splat!

Every splat makes your rival messier. Make them all messy before they do it to you!

Controls

Touch
Pull back on the picture and let go to throw. Or: the arrows on the left walk; on the right, aim higher or lower and hold Throw (the longer you hold, the harder).

Pull back on the picture and let go. Click a thing on the bar at the bottom to throw it next.
Keyboard
↑ ↓ aim higher or lower, ← → walk, hold Space and let go to throw. 1–5 pick what to throw, U opens the umbrella, P or Esc pauses.
Two players
Take turns on one screen, with the same keys, buttons or finger.

Things to throw

  • Water balloon. As many as you like. A good big splash.
  • Cream pie. Two a match. A small splat, but right on someone it makes the biggest mess.
  • Bouncy jelly. Two a match. It bounces twice first: over a hill, or into a hole.
  • Berry burst. Two a match. It bursts into three at the top of its flight.
  • Watermelon. Splats fill its meter (getting splatted fills it a little too). A giant splat that knocks people flying.
  • Umbrella. Once a match: it catches the next splat.

Four rivals

Bun
Easy, at the park. Throws only water balloons, gently, and often misses. A light breeze, big splats and a long aim line.
Kiki
Medium, at the beach. Learns from every miss and now and then throws something special. A shorter aim line.
Bruno
Hard, at the snowy hills. Hardly misses twice, picks good throws and walks to a better spot. No aim line, 25 seconds a turn.
Bolt
Champion, at the moonlit sky. Reads the wind exactly, weighs up every throw before it picks one and knocks you toward the sea. 18 seconds a turn.

Fall into the sea and a bunch of balloons brings you back, a bit messier. The aim line can be switched on or off for each rival on the start card. Each rival you beat gets a trophy.

Tips for big players

  • Learn from your last throw. The dashed line shows where it went, and a mark on the power bar how hard. Change one thing at a time.
  • Throw flat in a strong wind. A flatter, harder throw spends less time in the air, so the wind moves it less.
  • Dig them out. Every splat bites into the island. Splat the ground beside your rival and they slide into the hole, or toward the edge.
  • Save the umbrella. Open it once your rival has found their aim.
  • Mind your own feet. A splat too close splats you as well. Oops!

What kids practice

  • Guessing distance. How high and how hard to throw to land on a spot.
  • Learning from a miss. A little higher, a little harder, and try again.
  • Taking turns. Playing a friend on one screen and waiting for your go.

For grown-ups

Doodle splat has no ads, no accounts and no trackers. Wins, splats and bullseyes are saved only in this browser on this device. Sound stays off until your child turns it on with the speaker button. Nobody gets hurt: it’s water, cream and jelly, and a fall into the sea ends with a bunch of balloons and a giggle.

Against Bun and Kiki a dotted aim line shows where a throw is going; it can be switched on or off for any rival. The wind grows from a breeze to a strong gust, and against Bruno and Bolt each turn has a clock, so the game grows with your child. With reduced motion turned on in the device’s settings, shakes and slow motion are left out.

Questions

Is Doodle splat free?

Yes. All four rivals and the two-player game are free to play in the browser, with no ads, no sign-up and nothing to download.

Can a young child play it?

Yes. Against Bun the wind is gentle, splats are bigger and a dotted aim line shows where each throw is going. Doodle throws first, and Bun often misses. There’s never a turn clock against Bun.

Can two people play?

Yes. Pick “A friend” on the start card and take turns on one screen: the same buttons, keys or finger work for whoever’s turn it is.

How hard is the champion?

Very. Bolt reads the wind exactly, picks the best thing to throw for every shot, walks to a better spot, opens its umbrella at the right moment and tries to knock you into the sea. The wind is at its strongest, there’s no aim line, and you have 18 seconds a turn.
